Larry Barmore

Larry Barmore, 74, of Gerry, NY passed away on Jan. 3 peacefully at his home with his wife, Carol (Hitchcock) Barmore of 31 years by his side and surrounded by immediate family as per his wishes. Larry was born on Aug. 27, 1951, in Jamestown, NY to Janice Swanson Barmore of Florida and the late Verland Barmore.

Larry graduated from Cassadaga Valley Central School in 1969. After school, he went on to manage the former Big N in Jamestown and then in Allegany, NY. He then joined the family business Gay Mark Tire & Wheel in Cassadaga, NY with his father and eventually purchased the business from him. From 2008 to 2013, Larry selflessly served the people of Chautauqua County as a County Legislator. In 2014, Larry sold the Gay Mark business to expand his public service to be Chautauqua County Clerk, a position he held with honor until his death. Larry and his son, Keith, owned and managed Barmore Resale and Barmore Real Estate, both located in Jamestown since 2016.

Larry proudly held various offices with the Valley Historical Society and was a staunch member and supporter for 43 years, 26 of which he was the head of the Sinclairville History Fair. Larry authored two books on the history of Sinclairville, NY and was drafting a third on the history of Kimble Stand, NY prior to his passing. In recognition of Larry’s dedication to and long-standing support of the history of Sinclairville and surrounding communities, the Mayor of Sinclairville declared Sept. 14, 2024 “Larry Barmore Day”.

Larry cared deeply for his family and looked for many ways to make a difference and improve the community in which he lived. Larry was not only instrumental in obtaining grants for the historical society but he successfully secured grant funding for the Sinclairville Library as well. He was an active member of the Conduit Church of Jamestown, NY where he loved his church family and was involved in various church projects. Larry pridefully bragged about the number of hot meals the Church distributed to our local poor and hungry.

Larry was a founding member of “The Good Time Band” through the late 70s to early 90s and was also an avid pilot, enjoying many years flying with his brother Doug. Larry was also an avid Buffalo sports fan but loved the Atlanta Braves. Larry really enjoyed traveling with his wife Carol to Colorado and Florida to see family, especially his grandchildren.

Larry married Carol Hitchcock Barmore on Oct. 14, 1994, where they spent 31 wonderful years together. Father of Keith Barmore of Jamestown, NY, Jessica (Brian) Hoitink of Falconer, NY; grandfather of Alexander (Abbey) Barmore, Ava Keeler, Nicolas (Morgan Olsen) Hoitink, Delaney and Teage Brooks; brother of Douglas (Kathy) Barmore, he is also survived by Megan, Miranda, and Melissa who he lovingly cared for and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-grandchildren (with one on the way).

Larry is preceded in death by his dad (Verland), daughter Kristen Brooks, and brothers Darwin and Russell Barmore.

Larry and his family were thankful for Jim Caflish and everything he did for Larry.

A visitation will be held at the Jordan Funeral Home on Thursday, January 8 from 4 PM-8 PM with a funeral service held at the funeral home on Friday Jan. 9 at 11 AM which will be officiated by Pastor Cameron Lienhart, burial in Gerry Hill Cemetery.
