Joan E. (Wright) Hale, 79, of Spring Street, Randolph, passed away Wednesday Dec. 31, 2025 in Olean General Hospital.
She was born June 20, 1946 in Salamanca the daughter of the late Wilbur Rufus and Gertrude Eleanor (Smith) Wright.
Joan attended Cattaraugus High School and retired from Randolph Central School, where she was a bus monitor and cafeteria aide. In earlier years she had worked as a waitress at Lucy’s Dinner and R & M Restaurant. She had also worked at the Randolph Post Office and was a Home Care provider.
She was a member of the East Randolph Methodist Church, East Randolph Volunteer Fire Company, where she was the former auxiliary president, Randolph American Legion Auxiliary and was a charter member of the former Randolph Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2273.
Joan enjoyed baking, cooking, dancing with George, watching the Buffalo Bills, listening to music and spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hale, whom she married on October 10, 1992 and who preceded her on Aug 1, 2010, a son; Michael Monroe (2006), brothers, Ronald and Paul Wright, and a grandson, Ryan Monroe.
Surviving are two sons; Leonard (Sharon) Monroe of Kennedy and Leland (Kimberly) Monroe of Conewango Valley, two step-children; John (Laurel) Hale of Randolph and Michelle (Jeff) Plummer of Lyndonville, NY, a sister; Jane Frentz of Cattaraugus, two brothers, Wayne Wright of Cattaraugus and James Wright of Springville.
She was additionally survived by four grandchildren, Brock, Kristal, Miranda and Michael Monroe, nine step- grandchildren, Ryan and Nikki Earle, Dustin and Jacob Hale, David Everts and Samantha Babcock, Ryan and Joshua Stacey and Bethany Jackson and six great grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received by the family from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. on Jan. 10, 2026 from the East Randolph Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at Noon with Rev. Tim Middleton officiating. A dinner will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Arrangements are by the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, NY 14772. Burial will be in the East Randolph Cemetery.
