Gary Lee Carvella
Gary Lee Carvella, 83 of Lakewood, died Monday Jan. 5, 2026, in his home.
He was born Sept. 14, 1942, in Ellwood City, PA, a son of the late Dominic and Rita Cataldo Carvella.
He was a 1960 graduate of Jamestown High School and went on to earn degrees in accounting from Jamestown Community College and Bryant & Stratton College.
Gary enlisted in the Navy in 1962 and served as a corpsman until 1966. He did a tour of duty with the Navy in the Mediterranean and was stationed at Camp LeJune NC and at Guantanamo Bay with the US Marines. Upon leaving active duty, he was an active member of the Jamestown Naval Reserves until the closing of the center. After the Naval Reserve center closed, Gary continued serving his community by joining the Jamestown Army National Guard as a medic until his retirement from the military.
During his career, Gary worked as an accountant at multiple car dealerships in Chautauqua County, including Community Chrysler and Ed Shults. After retiring from accounting, Gary worked as a restaurant manager in various places throughout Jamestown and Warren, PA.
He was a devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church in Frewsburg and previously attended Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lakewood and Trinity Lutheran Church in East Amherst, where he served on various committees and roles. He previously acted as the commander of the Chautauqua County American Legion and remained an active participant in the American Legions in Lakewood and Frewsburg. He served on the team responsible for providing military honors at veterans’ funerals–a role he deeply valued as a meaningful way to honor their service and sacrifice.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Susan Till; his two sons, Michael Carvella of Knoxville, TN, and Jonathan Carvella of Spokane, WA; his two grandchildren, Cameron Carvella of Knoxville, TN, and Carissa Carvella of Princeton, IN; and his siblings, Darlene Geabon of Bemus Point, Bobbie Jean Stohl of Jamestown, and Anthony Carvella of Frewsburg.
