Betty Lou Blixt

Betty Lou Blixt, 84, of Jamestown, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, in Southern Pines, NC.

She was born May 16, 1941, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late William and Rosemary Herkert Boerst.

A 1959 graduate of Jamestown High School, where she sang in A Cappella and was head majorette for the marching band. She went on to study criminal justice at Jamestown Community College.

Following graduation from high school she was employed by Jamestown Telephone Company, the YWCA, First Phone Company and was a tour guide at the Lucy Desi Museum with her sister Barb.

Betty Lou’s career was working for the Better Business Bureau as a mediator and arbitrator.

She was a lifelong member of the Unitarian Church of Jamestown and its Adelphian Ladies Club. Her other memberships were various and vast including PTA, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Viking Lodge, Allied Arts, Waterways Knitting Guild, Curves, Zonta Club of Jamestown, Marvin Community House, Election Inspector Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Chautauqua County Youth Hockey Association, a charter member of the Falconer Moose Club, and served on the boards of Sunset Hill Cemetery and Ellicott Republican Party.

Surviving are five children David A “Scrubby” Blixt, Jr. of Frewsburg, Amy Lou (Dan) Gustafson of Pinehurst, NC, Dan Blixt of Florida, Dage (Kim) Blixt of Dale City, VA and Jody Lou (Joey) Blixt of Jamestown, grandchildren Paige (Alex) Bulko, Ryan (Megan) Gustafson, Abigail Blixt and Ellie Blixt both of Pittsburgh; three great grandchildren Lorelai Bulko and Hunter and Hayden Gustafson and two on the way; a foreign exchange student “son” from Finland Jari (Katri) Lehto and a brother Robert (Jill) Boerst of The Villages, Florida.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband David Blixt, Sr , whom she married June 2, 1961, who died April 21, 2000, and siblings William Boerst and Barbara Ann Slumsky.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, in the Lind Funeral Home, where friends will be received for two hours prior to the service in the funeral home.
