Betty L. DiBlasi

Betty Lou DiBlasi, 98, of Town of Busti, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026.

She was born Oct. 7, 1927 in Springville, New York, the daughter of the late Fred and Esther Wakenhut Detrick.

Betty Lou graduated from Griffiths Institute High School, and from the Buffalo Bible Institute. She served devotedly as a pastor’s wife in the churches pastored over the years by her late husband, Rev. James R. DiBlasi, including the pastorate of the Busti Church of God from 1969 to 1978.

In earlier years, along with making a wonderful home for her large family, Betty Lou was employed by several grape farms and by Busti Greenhouse. For the last 40 years prior to her retirement, she worked as a seamstress at Jamestown Draperies, beginning under the original owners and later working closely with her daughter, Joy, after Joy took ownership of the business.

She was a beloved member of Busti Church of God, serving as Sunday School, Bible School, and AWANA teacher. On Sept. 16, 2025, the Church awarded her the Lifetime Ministry Service Award.

Betty Lou was an avid gardener and also enjoyed crafting, knitting, sewing, and spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are four of her children: Joy (Kenneth) Yergens, of Jamestown; Hope (Allen) Fredrickson, of Sinclairville; Thomas (Tonya) DiBlasi, of Jamestown; and Glori (Daniel) Smith, of DuBois, PA., along with her beloved sister, Susan Nordlund, of Celoron; another sister, Shirley Realey, of Huntington Beach, CA; a brother, David (Betty) Detrick of Springville, NY; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James R. DiBlasi, whom she married June 10, 1951, who died Feb. 21, 1978; a son, Timothy DiBlasi and a daughter, Faith A. DiBlasi.

A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2026 in the Busti Church of God. Rev. Roy Ferguson pastor of the church will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Busti Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the service Friday in the church.
