Oscar William (Bill) Peterson

Oscar William (Bill) Peterson

Oscar William (Bill) Peterson, 70, of Bemus Point, NY, went home to be with Jesus on Dec. 5, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He passed, with his devoted wife of 50 years, Shelley, by his side and holding his hand.

Born May 8, 1955, in Jamestown, NY, to Everett Peterson and Gloria Mackey, Bill was a lifelong resident of the Bemus Point area. He graduated from Maple Grove High School and later earned an Associate’s Degree in Woodworking, a skill that served him well on his life on 133 acres.

On July 5, 1980, Bill married the love of his life, Shelley Decker. Together they built a beautiful, faith-filled family rooted in love, hard work, and devotion to God.

Bill was a proud farmer who found peace working the land and tending his garden. But his greatest joy was children–especially his 26 beloved grandchildren, who brought light to his eyes and a smile to his face regularly. His strength, kindness, and wisdom left a mark on everyone who knew him.

Bill is survived by his wife, Shelley Peterson; his eight children: Lacey Moore, Nicole Edwards, William (Billy) Peterson, Luke Peterson, Anne Jacobs, Shelby Peterson, Jennifer Lutgen, and Benjamin Peterson; his 26 cherished grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Everett Peterson and Gloria Mackey.

Bill’s long fight is over. The pain is gone. He is now whole, restored, and held forever in the arms of his Heavenly Father. He ran the race, he kept the faith, and he remained strong to the very end.

Arrangements entrusted to Riccardi’s Hubert Funerasl Home.
