Michael R. “Mike” Allen

Michael R. “Mike” Allen

Michael R. “Mike” Allen, 66, of Jamestown, died November 27, 2025 of complications following a heart attack. Mike was born in Jamestown on September 9, 1959, the son of Richard L. Allen and the late Johanna Klomp Allen.

Mike graduated from Jamestown High School in 1977. He studied Geology at SUNY Fredonia where he received his bachelor’s degree. His master’s fieldwork at the University of Nevada at Reno involved mapping silver mines in Peru. Mike worked in Geology in Nevada and Alaska out in the field in the specialty area of gold and silver sampling and drilling for the mining companies. While living in Reno he met and married Jacquelin Ierien and they had a son, Logan. When the price of gold plummeted in the 90’s, Mike returned to his hometown after studying and establishing a new career as a Microsoft Certified Network Engineer.

Mike was an intellectual man constantly researching subjects he was interested in, ranging from nutrition and gardening to long-term climate patterns, to political history to monetary policy and more. Consequently, he was an excellent conversationalist and debater who enjoyed a friendly and thoughtful debate on any subject. He enjoyed personal interactions at all levels and was remarkable for making his points concisely with very few words.

He was often busy learning how to build things, fix things, grow things, enjoying the process sometimes more than the end result, and accepting an outcome that needed revision and more thought as a true scientist would.

A man fueled by interpersonal connections, Mike was a sort of “house doctor” for information technology systems. He started his own business, Allen’s IT, built it up substantially over several years and enjoyed the people he dealt with daily to such a degree that he had no desire to retire.

Mike enjoyed Celtic music and Celtic festivals, and he appreciated Russian music because of the intricate vocal aspects.

Mike loved playing golf. He played regularly with his father at Cardinal Hills Golf Course. Mike enjoyed fishing (fly and light tackle), kayaking and hiking. He was a phenomenal gardener. When he spent time indoors, he could be found cooking and baking while tuning into hockey and Bills games and various podcasts.

Most of all Mike loved his family and friends. He adored and loved Debbie beyond words and loved his son, Logan more than life itself. He was a mentor, advisor, and friend to all. He will always be in our hearts. He will never be forgotten, and he will surely leave a void. He will be missed by his father, Richard L. (Cindi) Allen; his son, Logan Allen of Wichita, KS; the love of his life, Debbie Smeragliuolo; his siblings, Jeff (Sandra) Allen of Naples, FL, Dr. Nancy (Dr. Robert Daniels) Allen of Jamestown, and Martha (Nathan) Abers of Jamestown, as well as Jennifer (Kacy) Van Matre and Sean (Jennifer) Allen; and his nieces and nephews, Katlyn Allen, Chloe (Evan Ney) Richard, Benjamin Richard, Berit Abers, Emma Abers, Noah Van Matre, Silja Allen and Fenn Allen.

Mike’s family is grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff in the ER at UPMC, Chautauqua for the incredibly competent and compassionate care given on November 23rd.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 3-6pm on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Lind Funeral Home. A time of memory sharing will follow at Lind’s at 6pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the American Lung Association.
