Lorna Joanne Wares Wilson
Lorna Joanne Wares Wilson, born Aug. 27, 1959 in Jamestown, New York, and formerly of Kennedy, NY, passed peacefully into Heaven on Nov.21, 2025, at Tuomey Hospice Care, in Sumter, South Carolina, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Lorna was the daughter of the late Chester B. Wares and Ulrick (Lohnes) Wares. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Ryan A. Wilson and her partner, Douglas Wilson, both of Sumter, SC; two sisters, Wanda (Ralph) D’Angelo of Jamestown, NY, and Marla (Paul) Edson of Russell, PA; a sister-in-law, Nancy Wares of Little Valley, NY, 20 nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom she held close to her heart.
In addition to her parents, Lorna was preceded in death by her three brothers, Chester B. Wares Jr., Laurence Wares, and Donald Wares, as well as her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Wares and Corina Wares.
Lorna was a graduate of Frewsburg Central Schools. In 1977, she moved to Sumter, South Carolina, where she would stay and make her home. She earned her Associates Degree in Accounting, from Central Carolina Technical College in 1979.
Above all else, Lorna treasured time spent with her family. She will be fondly remembered for her warm, sweet smile and the kindness she offered so freely to everyone who knew her. Her presence brought comfort and left a lasting impression on so many people in her life.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Those wishing to honor Lorna’s memory may do so by making a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
