Gail E. McChesney

Gail E. McChesney, 86, of Russell, PA, died on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025, at Warren General Hospital, after an extended illness.

He was born in Torpedo, PA, on Dec. 17, 1939, the son of the late Raymond and Bernice Martin McChesney. Gail graduated from Youngsville High School, Class of 1959. After graduating, Gail served in the United States National Guard for eight years. He worked as a machine operator with MRC Bearings and later SKF Aero Engines, retiring in 2002 after 30 years of service. Gail then drove school bus for Decker Transportation, for the Warren County School District, which he really enjoyed.

Gail enjoyed watching Pittsburgh Steelers football, Nascar Racing, and playing and watching golf. He also was a motorhead and enjoyed tinkering, hot rods, fast cars, dirt track racing, and was a diehard Chevy man. His main passion was his family and friends, he cherished time spent with all of them, sharing stories and laughs, and enjoyed holiday gatherings.

He was a member of the Sugar Grove AM Vets Post 50, and the Warren Eagles Club Aerie # 313.

On Sept. 25, 1965, in Youngsville, he married the former Janet DeWatter and they just celebrated 60 years of loving marriage together.

In addition to his wife Janet, Gail is survived by his loving daughters, Lynn Sample of Russell, PA, Stacy Montes and husband Manuel of Warren, PA, and Tammy Trawick and husband Ron of Sugar Grove, PA; 10 grandchildren, Tim Sherman, Nicole Clark, Matthew Sherman and wife Lexi, Mandy Haight and husband Alex, Brian Sharp and girlfriend Elizabeth Kiddo, Mallory Coan and husband John, Aaron Trawick and wife Remy, Courtney Trawick, Elijah Trawick and wife Mary, and Hunter Trawick; 12 great grandchildren; sister Alice VanGuilder, of Starbrick; and sister in law, Rita Stover, of Russell, PA.

In addition to his parents, Gail was preceded in death by his sisters, Lois McChesney, and Joyce Colvin; brother, Ray (Jr.) McChesney; and son in law, Rick Sample.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, from 2 to 4 pm at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home Inc., 304 East St. Warren, PA. Memorial services will follow at 4 pm in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Dale Haight, officiating. Veteran honors will follow in the funeral home, presented by the Clarendon/ Sheffield VFW, and the Warren American Legion Honor Guard.
