Theodore “Jack” Benjamin Gruber, 93, of Mayville, NY, passed away at his home with family at his side on Monday, Nov. 24, 2025, following a brief illness. He was born May 7, 1932, in Warren, PA, the son of the late John and Marie Jones Gruber.
Jack is a 1949 graduate of Lander High School. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952, serving in the Post WWII Occupation Force in Germany. After his service time, he worked as a Crew Forman for the NYSDOT in Mayville, NY. He had also been a snowmobile dealer and sold snowmobile parts through a home business called Mayville Motors.
Jack had been a member of the Mayville Legion Post 493. He enjoyed wintering in Florida, hunting, listening to his kids’ hunting adventures, and playing in the Stock Market. In earlier years he would take his kids to the Moto Cross Track in Zoar Valley. Most of all, he enjoyed time with family.
He is survived by his three sons, Steven (Dorothy) Gruber, Brad (Lisa) Gruber and Ted (Brenda) Gruber, all of Mayville, NY, six grandchildren, Josh Gruber of Roanoke, VA, Kayla Gilbert of Mayville, NY, Airon (Ben) Karin of Silver Creek, NY, Justen (Tabitha) Gruber of Batavia, NY, Nitasha (Rae) Mosley of Mayville, NY, and Elizabeth (Sam) Burham of Mayville NY, fourteen great grandchildren, Wesley, Emmie, Madison, Aydan, Parker, Jaxson, Avery, Evan, Jemma, Luke, Bennett, Arabella, Arya, and Amiyah, one brother, Ray Gruber of Syracuse, NY, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mildred Parment Gruber, whom he married on Sept. 4, 1954, five siblings, John Gruber, Bob Gruber, Ralph Gruber, Gladys Gruber and Betty Chase, and one infant great-grandchild, Addie Gruber.
A private graveside service at the Mayville Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. A public Celebration of Life will be held on Dec. 6, 2025, from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Lake Chautauqua VFW Post 8647. Bring a dish to pass.
