Peter L. Carlo

Peter L. Carlo

Peter L. Carlo, 94, of Jamestown, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, at Warren Manor. He was born in Dunkirk, NY on May 4, 1931, to the late George and Josephine Ingavo Carlo.

Peter filled his life with hard work and acts of service. The co-owner of Carlo’s Market, which then became Boniwood Plaza, he also spent many years employed by Jamestown Finishes.

An extremely proud U.S. Army veteran, Peter was a life member of the VFW, American Legion, and the Disabled American Veterans, even holding a position with the State of NY. Additionally, he was a Moose member, a Knight of Columbus, and established the Cub Pack 95 with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Master. On his own accord, Peter attained over 300 flags from Washington D.C. and distributed them to clubs, schools, legions and churches.

Peter’s patriotism flew high at every Memorial Day Parade. Along with his wife, they placed flags in Soldier Circle annually; remarkably, he did not miss a parade in 63 years, serving as the Grand Marshall one year.

Following Peter’s daughter’s passing, he had a goal to keep her memory alive. Her work with The Resource Center inspired him to volunteer, including distributing pens around town. He never left home without a handful of labeled pens to disseminate.

A faithful Catholic all his life, Peter negotiated a Peace Mass for Chautauqua County at the Allen Park band shell. He sent letters to all denominations and brought faiths together from all around Western New York. For this, he was awarded the volunteer fellow of the year with the Knights of Columbus.

The Christmas spirit was embodied through Peter’s energy, too. Playing Santa for over 30 years, he made appearances at countless stores, veterans clubs, nursing homes, and businesses. His wife played Mrs. Claus and, together, they were the fan favorites of the Christmas parade for ten years.

Fandom coursed through Peter as well. He cheered for the New York Yankees, the Buffalo Bills, and Jamestown’s local baseball team. He enjoyed working at the ballpark as an usher for multiple seasons.

Peter leaves behind his wife of 72 years whom he married Oct. 17, 1953; Mary Ann D’Angelo Carlo; his children, Richard (Nancy) Carlo and Dianna (Terry) Samuelson; his grandchildren, Peter Field, Isabella Carlo, Tara (Nick) Cooke, and Sara (Griffin) Hopkins; and his great grandchildren, Caitlyn Field, Ronan Cooke, and a new one due in the coming week.

Besides his parents, Peter was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Jo Carlo Field, and his brother, Louis (Josephine) Carlo.

The family will receive friends from 2-5 pm Monday, Nov.24, 2025, at Lind Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church. Rev. Donald Watkins will be Celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church, 27 Allen St., Jamestown, NY 14701 or to St. Susan Center, 31 Water St., Jamestown, NY 14701.
