Bettyjean Franks

Bettyjean Franks, 94, of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away on Monday, Nov. 10, 2025, at UPMC Chautauqua, Jamestown, N.Y.

Bettyjean was born on June 1, 1931, in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of the late Leonard W. and Esther M. Finn Swezey.

Bettyjean was a member of Jamestown Choral Society. She was an active member of Kidder Global Methodist Church, she sang in the choir, led the children’s choir and she was active in women’s group.

Bettyjean enjoyed music and piano. She especially loved arts and crafts, embroidery, sewing and baking. Bettyjean was a foster grandparent at Love Elementary School for twenty years.

In addition to her parents, Bettyjean was preceded in death by her husband, Donald M. Franks, whom she married on April 10, 1954, who died on April 20, 1990; two sons: Christopher Franks and Donnie Franks and a granddaughter: Stephanie Lynn Leis.

Bettyjean is survived by four daughters: Joyce (Bill) Sanford of Jamestown, N.Y., Norma Jean Angelo of Lakewood, N.Y., Kimberly (L. Dan) Wilson of Jamestown, N.Y., and Janice Lynn Franks of Jamestown, N.Y.; eight grandchildren: Don (Allison) Sanford of Melbourne, Florida, April Leis of Charlotte, NC, Zachary (Krissy) Angelo of Cochranton, PA, Molly Angelo (Devoe Romain) of Lakewood, N.Y., Michelle (Roger) Weltico of Jamestown, N.Y., Daniel F.F. (Lindsey) Wilson II of Jamestown, N.Y., Gregory Owen Wilson of Jamestown, N.Y. and Matthew Bargar of FL; sixteen great-grandchildren: Peyton Sanford, Briannia Leis, Alyssa Leis, Boe Hendricks, Wesley Angelo, Riley Angelo, Paxton Angelo, Maverick Angelo, Zuri Brooks, Trevor (Jenny) Weltico, Zoe Weltico, Cecelia, Stella and Luca Wilson, A’very O’Neal and Aijon Scott; four great-great-granddaughters: Maliah and Gabriella Leis, Kyra Westbrook, Adalia Grace Weltico and an unborn great-great-grandchild on the way.

Family suggests memorial contributions be made to Kidder Global Methodist Church, 381 S. Main St., Jamestown, NY 14701.

Friends and family may visit Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, 316 E. 5th St., Jamestown, N.Y. on Friday, from 12 – 1PM. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM with Pastor Mike Kerzee officiating, pastor of Kidder Global Methodist Church. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashville, N.Y.
