Arthur L. Hodges
Arthur L. “Art” Hodges, 100, of Jamestown, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, at Heritage Green. He was born in Jamestown on April 6, 1925, to the late Leslie Hodges and Pearl Hovey Hewes.
At the age of 17 while attending Blockville School, Art was drafted into the United States Army in 1943 and proudly served in World War II. His one regret remained never receiving his high school diploma. In 2018, Art was presented with his high school diploma by the Superintendent of Panama Central Schools.
A man of strong and devoted faith, Art trusted in the Lord throughout his life. He read his Bible daily and was a steadfast member of the Frewsburg Alliance Church. For many years, he served as a deacon within the ministry.
Art was a quiet man, yet his kindness was felt by everyone. He always put his family first, being the gentle and compassionate figure as “dad.” Still, nothing got past Art. He was forever putting out fires and enjoyed building and recreating structures. In fact, he redid his entire home from top to bottom throughout the decades.
The benevolent, faith-centered heart Art exuded will be treasured by his children, Marcia (Ira John) Sleigh, Richard Hodges, and Daniel (Sheri) Hodges; his daughter-in-law, Lisa Hodges; his stepchildren, Beverly Franzen and Carol (Eric) Fosberg; his grandchildren, Amy Southwick, Jason (Ryan) Hodges, Kristofer (Tracy) Hodges, Camellia (Stephen) Chandler, and Benjamin Hodges; 12 great grandchildren including Matthew Southwick; a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Art was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Beckerink Hodges, who passed away in 1990; his second wife, Arolene Russell Hodges; his son, Ronald L. Hodges; his siblings, Robert Hodges, Ellen Rulon, and Elizabeth Nelson; and his stepchildren, John Russell and Donald Russell.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, no services or visitation will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Art’s name may be made to Frewsburg Alliance Church, 60 Falconer St., Frewsburg, NY 14738.
