William A. Sweeney
William A. Sweeney, 98, of Sugar Grove, PA, formerly of Kortwright Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, in UPMC Chautauqua.
A native of Busti, he was born Nov. 19, 1926, a son of the late John and Eva Oviatt Sweeney.
Bill was a self-employed dairy farmer. He also worked in construction for many years.
He attended Watts Flatts church for many years, and was a member of Sons of AMVETS, Panama Senior Citizens, Celoron Senior Citizens, Town of Busti Zoning Board, the Southwestern Central School District Board of Education, having served as president, and a 30-year member of ASC.
Surviving are two daughters, Judith (Gary) Fry of Sugar Grove and Rebecca (Jeff) Wilbur of Piedmont, OK; a daughter in law, Mary Sweeney of Ashville; seven grandchildren; Dr. Todd Sweeney, Steven (Chels) Sweeney, Bridget (John) Lyon, Amy (Jamie) O’Donnell, Craig Fry, Sherri (Brian) Smith, Kristie (James) Costilla; several great grandchildren; a great great grandson; and a caring companion, Marilyn “Peachy” James of Lakewood.
Beside his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Stufflebeam, whom he married June 22, 1946, and who died Jan. 24, 2013; a son William Sweeney; two daughters Kathy Sweeney and Marjorie Roy; five brothers Francis, Fred, John, Walter and Robert Sweeney and four sisters Julia Finn, Gladys Delahoy, Eva Blogett and Ethel Evanczik.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday October 11, 2025, in the Lind Funeral Home, where friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Grant Cemetery, Niobe.
