Thomas D. Johnson

Thomas D. Johnson

Thomas D. Johnson, 80, formerly of Lakewood, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, at Warren Manor. He was born in Jamestown on June 3, 1945, to the late Bertil C. and G. Alyce Swanson Johnson.

A hard-working man, Tom graduated from Southwestern School in 1963 and continued his education at RIT. He started his professional career in the plastic chemical industry, but for family reason decided to move the family back to Lakewood and went into the retail automotive business. Working with his dad at Johnson’s bakery in younger years transpired into working with his own sons in his general contracting business in more recent decades.

Though Tom could come across as reserved, his genuine warmth and compassion were always close to the surface. He loved to take care of people, and he did so everywhere he went. Before retirement, he was the head of the seal coating team at Kingsview Paving.

Proud of his Swedish heritage, Tom made barley korv every year and traditionally ran a flea market outside of Super Duper in Lakewood. He was a Master of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge, taking great pride in leadership and ritual alike.

To know Tom was to cherish his joking nature; His wit, sarcasm and dry humor could be an acquired taste. He was not one to openly show emotion and his jokes and pranks were his way of trying to show just how much he loved you.

While Tom did whatever he could for anyone, his utmost love remained with his family. He will be forever remembered by his children: Lynn (Jon) Brockway of KS; Mark (Dara) Johnson of MI; Scott (Laura) Johnson of Rochester, NY; and Amy (Dan) Johnson of Lakewood, NY; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Dave Johnson of London, England; his sister, Wendy Williams of MT; as well as numerous extended family members.

Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his former wife, Donna.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 2-4 pm Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, at Lind Funeral Home. A Masonic Lodge Funeral Service will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge No. 145, 3485 Baker St. Ext., Jamestown, NY 14701.
