Phyllis Eklund Duink
Phyllis Eklund Duink passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, at Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing. She was born in Jamestown, NY on June 10, 1928 to the late Ernest and Marguerite North Eklund. Phyllis grew up in Jamestown, NY and graduated from Jamestown High School in June 1947. She then worked at the Post Journal. Growing up in Jamestown, Phyllis would regularly dress up, put on her dancing shoes and take the bus with her friend to go square and round dancing at Fluvanna Fire Hall. It was at one of these dances that she met her husband, Kenneth Duink. Phyllis and Kenneth were married on Oct. 14, 1949 at Stillwater Church. They were married for 59 years until the passing of Kenneth in 2009.
In 1955, Phyllis and Kenneth bought a dairy farm in Sherman, NY. Although being raised a city girl, Phyllis gradually became accustomed to country living and being a farmer’s wife. Phyllis dedicated her life to her family. She lovingly cared for her three children: Jeffrey, Wanda, and Darryl. She was a great cook with chocolate brownies being one of her specialties. Phyllis was thoughtful of others and enjoyed knitting baby sweaters for relatives or friends. She was a member of the Community Church of Sherman, NY and belonged to the Harmony Circle. At one time, she was also a trustee. Phyllis enjoyed having friends and relatives drop in at the farm to visit. She would always serve coffee(her favorite beverage) and something sweet to eat. As the years went by, Phyllis loved spending time with her grandchildren, Chad and Stacy. Those times were very special and made many pleasant memories for all.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Cochrane of North East, PA, son, Darryl Duink(Chris) of Hamburg, NY; grandchildren: Chad Cochrane (Leah) of Bow, NH; Stacy McIvers (Jimmy) of Buffalo, NY; great grandchildren: Rorie, Cole, and Sawyer Cochrane of Bow, NH; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Duink, and sisters, Grace White and Jeanette Langhans.
