Jon A. Saff, 87, of Falconer passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025 in UPMC Chautauqua.
He was born Feb. 14, 1938 in Kane, PA, the son of the late Arthur O. and Doris M. Johnson Saff.
Jon was a 1956 graduate of Falconer High School and participated on the undefeated championship football team and Section 6 Championship Baseball Team.
He graduated from Jamestown Business College, and Jamestown Community College, and attended Fredonia State University. Jon served 6 years in the U.S. Army Reserves 98th Division as Staff Sargent.
Jon worked in the banking business for 46 years retiring in 2006. He worked for several Jamestown banks specializing in the trust and estate business as Vice President and Manager of the M & T Jamestown Trust Department. He was a member of the NY State Banker Trust Division of WNY.
He served on the boards as President of the Falconer Area Jaycees, Jamestown Planning Council, Sunset Hill Cemetery and served as Treasurer of the American Cancer Crusade for 15 years.
Jon was a board member of the United Way, serving as chairman of special gifts, and served as Treasurer of the Dibert Foundation. He served as President of the Methodist Gardens Senior Housing and Chairman of the Falconer United Methodist Church – Living & Memorial Fund. He was a member of the Jamestown Rotary and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Jon was a 50 year member of the Vikings, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Samuel Derby American Legion. He was confirmed in First Lutheran Church and was a member of the Falconer United Methodist Church. Jon was a 30 year member of Moon Brook Country Club and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, proudly holding season tickets for three decades.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 65 years, Sally Matteson Saff, whom he married June 25, 1960 in Falconer United Methodist Church; two sons: Scott (Cathryn) Saff of Raleigh, NC, and Kevin (Lisa) Saff of Jamestown; four grandchildren: Andrew (Sarah) Saff of Charlotte, NC, Kayla (Colton) Orbaker of Ashville, NY, Michael (Tami) Saff of Brewster, NY, and Katie (Cody) Toor of Gainesville, NY; as well as five great-grandchildren and another expected in Nov.
His proudest accomplishment was the loving family he leaves behind. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather who found deep joy in being an active part of his family’s lives. He celebrated their milestones with pride, shared his wisdom with warmth and humor, and was always there with encouragement and love. Above all, he cherished every moment spent together, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, guidance, and lasting family bonds.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Sally Neathery.
A private funeral service will be held in the Falconer Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Childs pastor of Falconer United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
Visitation will not be observed.
