Charles B. “Chuck” “Bud” Frye

Charles B. “Chuck” “Bud” Frye
Charles B. “Chuck” “Bud” Frye, 88, of Mayville was called home surrounded by his loving grandchildren, on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025. He was born Nov. 27, 1936 in Rochester Mills, PA, a son of the late Blair and Edna Leasure Frye.
Following graduation from Marion Center High School, he married the love of his life, Hazel I. Dobson Frye on Oct. 27, 1955, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage prior to her passing on Jan. 17, 2020.
Together they made their home in Niagara Falls, NY where Charles was employed as an insurance agent and later a supervisor at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. In 1968 they moved to the farm in Mayville where he spent the majority of his life.
Charles possessed an unwavering work ethic which led to a lifetime of hard work. He always said, “you gotta keep movin'” and therefore held many different jobs over the years. A retiree of the former Marlin Rockwell Corp. in Jamestown, he often worked multiple jobs at once. Working alongside his son, Stephen, he enjoyed dairy farming and owning and operating a sawmill. A natural born farmer, he also raised pigs and beef cattle. Charles was remarkably handy, self-sufficient and mechanically inclined, able to build and restore anything. As a hobby he liked to repair and sell lawn mowers and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone.
A true outdoorsman, he loved to fish and hunt, especially deer, bear, and raccoon. He and his wife opened their home to hunters for many years, and he was also able to make several trips elk hunting in Colorado. Charles was a skilled butcher and mentor to many.
Chuck and Hazel looked forward to attending Blue Grass festivals together, camping on the Allegheny River in Pennsylvania, bonfires and cookouts. He was a lover of animals, tractors, coin collecting, and attending auctions.
He will be remembered as a devoted grandfather, the family patriarch, and a proud provider. Chuck had a profound love for his grandchildren who cherished his advice and love for laughter.
Surviving is a brother, Jerry (Mary) Frye of Rochester Mills, PA; his grandchildren: Jennifer (Spencer) Carlson of Mayville, Justin (Kaitlyn) Frye of Sherman, and Julie (Steven) Barrett with whom he resided the past several years; six great grandchildren: Eli, Callie and Dawson Barrett, Gannon and Everly Carlson, and Lainee Frye; a daughter-in-law, Shelly Frye of Mayville; sisters-in-law, Dortha Troup of Newton Falls, OH and Merry Frye of Ashville, NY; as well as several loved nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife Hazel, Charles was preceded in death by their son, Stephen Frye in 2011; his sister, Emogene Griffith; and brothers, Paul, Valgene and Donald Frye.
Friends will be received from 4 to 6 pm on Thursday and for one hour prior to the12:00 noon service on Friday, Oct. 10. The Rev. Dave Cooke will officiate, and burial will be in the Panama Greenwood Cemetery.
