Valerie S. Holmes

Valerie S. Holmes, 80, of Jamestown, NY passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025 at home.
A lifelong area resident, she was born Jan. 26, 1945 in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of the late Theodore W. Holmes and Ann Louise Chili Holmes.
Valerie graduated from Frewsburg Central School in 1963 and obtained her teaching degree from Geneseo State College and her Master’s degree from Fredonia College.
Before her retirement in 2020, she was employed by Cassadaga Central School at Sinclairville Elementary School as a teacher teaching kindergarten, second grade, math, and computer skills to her students.
She made lifelong friends and influenced the life of many children. She was known for her caring, compassionate manner and generosity for students and staff and will be remembered as a very dedicated teacher.
Valerie was honored in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. This was a special honor, because she was chosen by a former student who appeared in the National Dean’s List. She was nominated as they asked what teacher inspired them to become successful students and leaders today.
She is survived by her sister Patricia Helin and brother-in-law Ralph, and many cousins.
She had a love for all animals, especially her cat Mittens. She would like to thank the Schroeder family, Doug and Kathy, and James and Jessica Emmott for all the support and help at school.
In earlier years, Valerie raised Samoyed puppies, one of which was her beloved Snowbear, whom she lost after 15 years.
After retirement, she enjoyed going out for lunch and doing shopping on QVC. She was a Buffalo Bills fan and took pride in maintaining and decorating her home especially with red cardinals.
A private funeral will be held for family at Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg.
Memorials may be made to Kiantone Fire Department or a S.P.C.A.
