Ray W. Munson, 96, of Westfield, NY, passed away at the Heritage Park Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, following a courageous battle with Dementia. He was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Sherman, NY, the son of the late Arlington I. and Edith Darling Munson.

For many years, he also drove a school bus for Westfield Academy and Central School, worked at Growers during the pressing season, and ran the Tasty Freeze in Westfield alongside his family.

He was a longtime member of the Westfield Fire Department and the Westfield Exempt Firemen’s Association, the Westfield United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, and also belonged to the Westfield Community Chorus. Ray had enjoyed fixing things, snowmobiling, woodworking, building, canoeing, motorcycling, and working on his 1930 Model A Ford car. In Rays own words, “I’m a Jack of all trades, and a master of none.”

He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Marilyn J Amidon Munson, whom he married on Dec. 30, 1950, in Portsmouth, VA, three children, Ray W (Ann) Munson Jr of Mason, OH, Mary K (John) Caveman of Covington, KY, and Anne Munson of Mayville, NY, four grandchildren, Eric W (Amanda) Munson, Shannon M (Jason) Wathan, and Kathy (John) Willis, seven great-grandchildren, Joshua, Aaryanna, Jaxson, Kayla, Sierra, Eryn, and Johnathan, a sister inlaw, Jane Munson of Dewittville, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. At Ray’s request, there will be no public services. A private graveside service will be held in the Dewittville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
