Phyllis M. Weise

Phyllis M. Weise

Phyllis M. Weise, 93, of Panama, NY, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, at Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing.

Phyllis was born in Jamestown, NY on July 22, 1932, to the late Vincent and Ione Rogerson. She spent most of her life, however, in Panama, NY and had a deep connection to the community. She graduated from Panama High School. Always a hard worker, Phyllis cleaned houses and trimmed grapes before she started a 21-year career as a clerk for the United States Postal Service, serving in the Panama, Ashville, Chautauqua, and Jamestown offices. Phyllis was a longtime member at Panama Baptist Church where she participated in the choir and taught Sunday School. She was known as “Dr. Phyllis” to family members and friends because of her knowledge of remedies for all manner of ailments. She enjoyed baking, camping, gardening, puzzles, card games, and picking blackberries and apples. In her later years, Phyllis and Harold enjoyed their winter home away from the NY snow-belt down in sunny Bradenton, FL.

Phyllis loved her family and loved caring for her grandchildren. Her laugh and zest for life will be missed by those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 74 years, Harold, who passed away only recently. Also, her twin brother, Phillip Rogerson; and her siblings: Robert Rogerson, Marion Harper, and Adelaide Manwaring.

Phyllis is survived by her sister: Maxine (the late Arthur) Cook. Her children: Cheryl (the late Robert) Hall, Denise (Loring) Prest, Douglas (Cindy) Weise, and Deanna (Timothy) Cornish. Her grandchildren: through Cheryl: Ashley (Rodney) Sandberg, Gregory (Jacqueline Blair) Hall; through Denise: Travis (Michelle Drewry) Prest; through Douglas: Seth (Christine) Weise, Cora (Rob) Young, Paige (David) Tapia; and through Deanna: Jennifer (Brian) Damcott, Andrea (Christopher) Wingard, and Jason Cornish. She leaves 14 great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren twins on the way.

In recent years, Phyllis (and Harold) received valuable in-home assistance from caregivers. Phyllis’s family would like to express our appreciation for their dedicated and compassionate care for them both.

The funeral service for Phyllis will be held at 1 pm on Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, at Panama Baptist Church. Friends will be received from 11 am to 1 pm just prior to the service in the church. Burial will be in Panama Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Panama Baptist Church, 21 North St., Panama, NY 14767, or to the Panama Volunteer Fire Department, 27 Main St., Panama, NY 14767.
