Donald E. Butcher, Sr.

Donald E. Butcher, Sr., 92, formally of Fredonia, New York, departed from his family on Sept. 17, 2025. He was residing with his daughter and son-in-law in Conewango Valley, New York.

He was the beloved soulmate, husband of the late LaVona Butcher. He leaves behind a companion, Maxine Hoffman.

Donald was born in Falconer, New York. He is the son of the late Clyde Butcher Sr. and Janet (Ingersoll) Butcher.

Donald graduated from South Dayton High School, known now as Pine Valley Central School. He was an all-star basketball player during his time there. He was employed by Clark Supply for 19 years and retired at CARTS of Fredonia.

Donald was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling. He helped initiate the Pine Valley Pee Wee/Midget football program. He belonged to the Cherry Creek Masonic Lodge #384 for 55 years. He was involved with the Jamestown Ismailia Drum Corp for many years. He was named the Shriner Potentate of Buffalo in 1997. Donald loved going to all his family’s events. He especially loved the Christmas holiday, as his family gathered at his home.

Donald was the beloved father of Donald (Pegg) Butcher, Jr., Janise (Don) Rhoades, James (Jerry) Butcher, the late Paula (Dan) Troutman and Chaz Coats-Butcher. He was the loving grandfather of Tara Hayes, Christina Pencek, Casaundra Cramer, Brandon Neumeister, Brianne’ Schoonmaker, Tiffany Farnham, Danielle Arnone, Sean Butcher, Kourtney Almeida, Justina Young, Nicole Rogowsky, Cody Troutman and Lila Kober.

He is survived by 17 great-grandchildren, one great, great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews. Those that also precede him, is a sister, Violet Pickup and brothers’, Albert, Clyde Jr., and Denzil Butcher.

Relatives and friends may visit the VanRensselaer and Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph on Tues, Sept. 23, 2025 from 4-7pm, from where funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 AM. Retired Pastor Jennifer Delahoy will officiate. Burial will be in the Villanova Cemetery.
