Sandra Gordon McClain, 74, from Erie, PA, Maple Springs, NY and Tamarac, FL, born in Lexington, Kentucky, died on Monday Aug. 25, 2025 after a long 25-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Surviving is her soul mate, husband, and best friend of 55 years of marriage, Dr. Thomas E. McClain, who was a partner and owner of Erie Animal Hospital. Sandra is the loving mother of two sons, Thomas Edward McClain II (Tee) from FL. And son Scott Gordon McClain from Fort Lauderdale, FL., who passed away in August 2019 and is now our guardian angel.
Also surviving from Lexington, Kentucky are two supportive and loving sisters and husbands, Lynn and Richard McCreary, and Ruth and Ben Baker. Sandy also has a brother Stan Gordon from Seattle, Wash., and a sister-in-law Sally Jo Wallace, and her husband Angus Wallace from Pottstown, PA ,and many nieces, and nephews.
Sandy graduated from Tates Creek High School in Lexington, KY in 1969 and then graduated from Hamilton Hospital School of X-Ray Technology in 1971.
Sandy volunteered for many charitable organizations before she went to work at Priority Care in Erie, PA., were she retired. Sandy also assisted when the 911 system was implemented, notifying each resident and property owner of their permanent address. It made her smile to see numbers go on each house, which meant emergency vehicles could find the house and mail and packages could finally be delivered in Maple Springs. She published two histories of Maple Springs, NY and also several telephone directories for the Maple Springs area. Sandy was an amateur radio operator; her call sign is N3LKW. Sandy died with dignity, smile and love of life and animals, and valued her supportive family and friends. No visitation will be observed and a private service will be held at a later date with immediate family only. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Maple Springs Citizens Association, Bemus Point, NY 14712 or the Maple Springs Fire Department, PO Box 100, Bemus Point, NY 14712, or the Humane Society of your choice.
