James David Mason
It is with profound sadness that we announce that James David Mason, 84, of Warren Manor, died Jan. 18, 2025.
He was the son of Florence Marie Mason and Walter Samuel Mason.
He was a graduate of Jamestown High School class of 1959, where he was a great athlete on the football and swim teams and proud member of Braw Caddy Clan.
He was employed and supervised by his uncle Olof “Red” Johnson at Falconer Metal Specialties. Jim was very fond and proud of his uncle.
He soon ventured to California in 1961with his great and admired friend Bruce Smith and his family. He was employed by Rocodyne where he was 1 of 33,000 employees to work on the Moon Travel Project. Jim built the tool that built the Lem rockets which successfully went to the moon in 1969.
He was married for four years to the former Loretta Kaiser with whom he had two daughters Ana and Cheryl Mason.
Jim came back to Jamestown in 1972 and started The Taco Hut with then wife Judy Zelmer. Jim was a very patient, kind and trusting person who achieved so much in his life.
Jim and Kim Mason as husband and wife were together for 49 years. They have two daughters, Amber Mason and Lindsay Mason and two granddaughters Zoey and Chloe. Jim and Lindsay enjoyed spending time together on the deck or going for walks.
Kim would like to thank members of their church Becky, Loretta, Kelly, and Pastor Doug and Doug’s wife Cindy, who spent time with Jim. Additional thanks to dear friends and golf buddies Rex Rader, Keith Liddie and the late Tom Trusso. Jim is in heaven on the greatest golf course, for sure.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 am Saturday Aug. 2, 2025, at South Hills Country Club.
A private celebration of life will hosted by his wife at a later date.
Jim requested that any memorial donations be made to Jamestown Community Chapel, 35 Camp Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
