Donald M. Taylor, 86, of 8013 Old Route 17, Jimersontown, Town of Salamanca, passed away Tuesday (Aug. 5, 2025) at Buffalo General Hospital.
He was born Mar. 22, 1939 in Salamanca, the son of the late Percy Shongo and Beulah L. Taylor. Don attended Salamanca and South Dakota High Schools and was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War in South Korea from Dec, 15, 1956 to Jan.11, 1960 where he served as a Military Policeman.
He retired from the Iron Workers Local # 6 in Buffalo, where he served as Journeyman from 1968-1994. He was a Charter member of the Seneca Nation AIRVFD in Jimersontown, where he was a past Chief and served on the board of directors.
He enjoyed watching his Children and grand-kids sporting events, hunting, fishing, football and NASCAR. He was also a member of the Salamanca John F. Ahrens VFW POST 5296 and the Hughes-Skiba American Legion Post # 525.
He is survived by a son; Dr. Michael Spencer (Holly Thompson) of Fair Haven, NY, a daughter;Kari Taylor of Salamanca, Eight grandchildren; Carli (Edward) Buffalo, Leigh (Les) McCumber,Lynsey (Louis) St. Germaine Jr., Taylor Sullivan, Dylan (Alyson) Taylor- Wolford, Reese Taylor,Quinn Taylor and Jacee McComber and 19 great-grandchildren and one great grandchild, a brother; Dr. Robert Robinson, Charleston, SC, two sisters; Mary Lou Stidd of Mt. Jewett, PA., and Bonnie Taylor of Salamanca.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Norma J. (John) Taylor, whom he married on Apr. 7, 1962 and who preceded him on Feb. 16, 2018, two daughters Elaine Seymour and Sharyn Taylor, his twin brother; Ronald Taylor and a sister; Sandra Maybee.
The family will receive relatives and friends in the family home Wednesday late afternoon and all day Thursday. Services will be held at the convenience of the family on Friday (Aug. 8,2025) Burial will follow in the Taylor Family Cemetery, Jimersontown. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph.
