Richard G. Wakefield

Richard served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Kennedy United Methodist Church in Kennedy, NY. He worked as an automotive mechanic and upon moving to Kentucky in 1970 he became the manager of Sears Auto Center in Lexington, KY. After retiring from Sears, he worked for the Kentucky State Police auto garage for several years. Richard taught himself to become a farmer, raising tobacco and beef cattle in Anderson County. He served as a Director of the Anderson County Farm Bureau for 35 years. Richard enjoyed playing baseball during his life in New York and softball after moving to Kentucky.

Along with his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a grandson, Cody Shane Willhoite and a brother, Harry Wayne Wakefield.

Including Barbara, his wife of 60 years, Richard is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Wakefield Drury (husband Timmy) and Diana Wakefield Drury, both of Lawrenceburg; four grandchildren, Miranda Jean Drury, T.J. (Alex) Drury, Cassie Fannin, Cory (Kelly) Fannin, and Cody’s wife Elizabeth Willhoite; six great grandchildren, Zeke, Easton, Levi, Henry, Elaina, and Shiloh; and two step great grandchildren, Jewells and Miralyn; and a sister, Norma Jean Norris of Ashville, NY.

According to Richard’s wishes, cremation was chosen. No public services will be held.
