Richard Burton “Dick” Seely
Mr. Richard Burton “Dick” Seely, age 87, passed away at his home in Norton Shores, Michigan on Friday, July 11, 2025. He was born in Jamestown, New York on Nov. 29, 1937 to Burton and Irene (Rissel) Seely.
Dick graduated from Jamestown High School in 1955, where he excelled in football as a quarterback and defensive back, following in the footsteps of his father, stepfather, and brother. Following a brief time playing semi-professional football, he moved to Michigan and began a 37-year career at GTE, holding many different managerial and technical roles. While at GTE, he enjoyed hosting pool parties in Adrian after softball and the many friendships he made.
Outside of work, Dick enjoyed golfing, riding his motorcycle,boating, and many other outdoor activities. He loved spending time in Gulf Shores, Alabama,and drinking a beer at the famous Flora-Bama beach bar. Most importantly, he loved his family and enjoyed being “Grandpa Duck” to his two grandsons.
He is survived by his three children,Bret (Julie) Seely, Michelle McDonald, and Renee Seely; two grandsons, Hunter Victor McDonald and Kodiak Richard McDonald; brother, Gerald D. Seely; and many nieces, nephews,and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Cordelia “Dede” Seely; and long-time friend, Jeannette Tyler.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 2:00 PM Friday, July18, 2025 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. VISITATION will be one hour prior to his service.
A GRAVESIDE SERVICE will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Sunset Hill Cemetery, 665 HuntRoad, Lakewood, NY 14750. MEMORIALS in memory of Dick may be made to the charity ofyour choice. You may sign his online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
