James David Mason

A celebration of life for James David Mason, affectionately known as Jim, who passed away peacefully January 18, 2025, in Warren Manor at the age of 84 will be held at 10 am Saturday August 2, 2025, at South Hills Country Club

Jim was born May 24, 1940, and grew up in Jamestown, NY. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1959 where he was a member of the football team, swim team and Braw Caddy Clan.

Following graduation, he served an apprenticeship in tool and die making at Falconer Metal Specialty. Always curious and hardworking, Jim soon ventured west to California, where he worked at Rock-a-Dime, contributing to parts that would become part of the historic first moon landing.

After several years he returned to Jamestown with a love for California’s Mexican cuisine. Jim and his wife Judy launched what would become a beloved local institution- Taco Hut. Starting as a small storefront in the Zuckerman Building, Jim’s vision, passion and supportive staff helped grow the business into a Jamestown favorite for 48 years.

Jim’s legacy is one of creativity, craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and love for family.

He is survived by a sister Sandra (Sam) Holt; brother Daniel (Connie) Mason; four daughters Anna, Cheryl, Amber and Lindsey and four grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him through his work, his food, and his generous spirit.
