Harold A. Weise

Harold A. Weise

Harold A. Weise, 95, of Panama, N.Y., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

He was born on May 30, 1930, to the late Garfield and Alberta (Wassink) Weise.

A lifelong resident of Panama, Harold had a deep connection to his community. His father, Garfield, started Weise Hardware in Panama in the late 1930s. As a teenager, Harold started working with his father. Eventually, Harold and his brother, Allan, took over the business, which they operated until 2000. While Allan managed the store, Harold provided a range of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other contractor services to the area. After his decades of service, Harold came to know thousands of people in the region. They say some people are a “Jack of all trades, but Master of none.” Harold mastered all trades.

Harold served in the Panama Fire Department for many years, including time as the Fire Chief. He was a lifelong member of Panama Baptist Church, where he was a trustee and served on many committees. During the Korean Conflict, he served two years in the U.S. Army assigned to Germany.

In the late 1960s, Harold used his skills to build the home that he lived in the rest of his life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed woodworking and gardening. In recent years, he rekindled his interest in drawing and painting.

Harold adored his family and was respected by both family and friends alike. Harold’s passion for helping others and affection for his family will be deeply missed by his wife, Phyllis (Rogerson) Weise, whom he married in March 1951; his children: Cheryl (the late Robert) Hall, Denise (Loring) Prest, Douglas (Cindy) Weise, and Deanna (Timothy) Cornish; his grandchildren: through Cheryl: Ashley (Rodney) Sandberg, Gregory (Jacqueline Blair) Hall; Denise: Travis (Michelle Drewry) Prest; Douglas: Seth (Christine) Weise, Cora (Rob) Young, Paige (David) Tapia; and Deanna: Jennifer (Brian) Damcott, Andrea (Christopher) Wingard, and Jason Cornish; 14 great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren twins on the way; and his brother, Allan (Mary Jane) Weise.

In recent years, Harold and Phyllis have received valuable in-home assistance from caregivers. Harold’s family would like to express our appreciation to their dedication and compassion to their care.

The funeral service for Harold will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Panama Baptist Church. Pastor Andy Cook will officiate. The family will receive visitors for two hours prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Panama Baptist Church. Burial will be in Panama Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Panama Baptist Church, 21 North Street, Panama, NY 14767, or to the Panama Volunteer Fire Department, 27 Main Street, Panama, NY 14767.
