Dr. Wallace “Wally” B. Johnson

Dr. Wallace “Wally” B. Johnson, 75, of Frewsburg, NY and formerly of Mayville, NY, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025, at UPMC Chautauqua Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born July 12, 1949, in Jamestown, NY, the son of the late Milton E. and Helen D. Ahlstrom Johnson.

The grandson of Swedish immigrants, Wally was a 1967 graduate of Panama Central School. He then attended Colorado State University where he completed his undergraduate studies before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Loyola Dental School in Chicago IL. For 42 years, he practiced dentistry at Mayville Dental Arts, but he would always say that it was never about dentistry, it was about the people. He truly loved all of his patients.

He danced through life with optimism, laughter, and a loving heart. Whether it was fly fishing the Sierra Nevada mountains, playing accordion for his patients, or simply sharing his wisdom, there was never a dull moment with Wally. He always found great pride in taking care of his property at the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains. No matter how wild life got for Wally, he was always there for his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda Sorman Johnson, whom he married July 6, 1974 in Lakewood, NY, four children, Britta (Cameron) Mayer of Arlington, VA, Irik Johnson of Alexandria, VA, Kidda Johnson of Ashville, NY, and Torrey Johnson of Buffalo, NY, three grandchildren, Elin, Anders and Eva Mayer, three sisters, Cynthia (Phil) Sturke, Bethany (JoAnne) Johnson, and Pamela (Bob) Sherman, and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. A celebration of life will be held at a future date at the convenience of the family.
