Maureen Beresford

Maureen Beresford
Maureen Beresford,60, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 14, 2025, in Clermont, Florida, surrounded by her family and friends.
Born in Bellshill, Scotland, to Ian and Jean Wilson, Maureen began her career coordinating school food resources for children across her home county’s districts. In August 1996, she embarked on a new adventure by immigrating with her husband and two young boys to Jamestown, New York. She then began her next chapter as a preschool teacher at First Covenant Church, where she volunteered and later taught from 2004 to 2022. Her nurturing love and support for children extended beyond the classroom to her time volunteering with the Child Advocacy Program in Chautauqua County to support children during transition periods. During her summers, she worked at the Chautauqua Institution Bookstore–a role that eventually became full-time and reflected her deep appreciation for the Institution’s beauty, community, and spirit.
Maureen was a dedicated member of Zion Covenant Church for over 20 years, faithfully serving in various roles and supporting the church’s mission and the community with grace and generosity.
Maureen brought a kind and powerful energy wherever she went. With quiet strength, humor, and deep compassion, she enriched the lives of everyone she encountered–whether through a thoughtful word, a helping hand, or simply her warm smile and steady presence.
Maureen’s father, Ian Wilson, preceded her in death. She is survived by her mother, Jean Wilson; her husband, Jim Beresford; and her sons, Scott Beresford and Ross Beresford (Anna Lawn).
A service to celebrate Maureen’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 24, at 3 pm at Zion Covenant Church in Jamestown, 520 Fairmount Ave, Jamestown, NY 14701.
