Jeanne K. Long

Jeanne K. Long
Jeanne K. Long, 78, of Bemus Point, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born Feb. 4, 1947, in Jamestown, NY, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Marchiando and Evelyn Mills Marchiando Jankoski.
Jeanne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She and her husband, Richard A. Long (Richie), owned and operated The Chatterbox, a cherished local restaurant for nearly 20 years. It was more than a place to eat–it was a warm, welcoming community where regulars felt like family and Jeanne’s cooking and kindness made everyone feel at home.
She and Richie married in Nov. 1970 and were truly the perfect pair. Richie had a way of making Jeanne laugh–often with a joke or a playful look–and their love for each other was evident to anyone who knew them. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and deep devotion to family. The legacy they created continues to live on in their children, grandchildren, and all those lucky enough to have known them.
Known for her gentle spirit and tireless work ethic, Jeanne gave everything she had to care for her family, friends, and loved ones. Whether at the restaurant or gathering for countless celebrations, she always offered an amazing meal with a side of unconditional love.
She enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling, and had a playful side when it came to cards, gambling, and games–earning the nickname “The Black Widow” from her grandchildren during contested family poker nights. She was an avid Harry Potter fan–a true Gryffindor–brave, loyal, and strong until the end. In her later years, her devoted dog Danny Boy was her constant companion, always by her side and never far from her lap.
Above all, Jeanne found joy in being a mother and grandmother. She loved her family deeply.
Her children and grandchildren adored her in return and will always remember her warmth, steady presence, and the way she made each of them feel truly loved.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard Long, and by four of her children–Ronald, Richard, Gary, and Shelly Holland–whose memories she carried with quiet strength and love throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughters, Kari (Hans) Auer of Bemus Point, NY and Billie Jean (John)Meyers of Melbourne Beach, FL; grandchildren Grace and Peter Auer, and Jerry, Reagan, Caroline, and Mary Meyers; her dog, Danny Boy; and siblings Sam (Antoinette) Marchiando, Marcia Greenwood, and Tim (Carol) Marchiando.
Jeanne will be laid to rest beside Richie at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in a private family ceremony. A Celebration of Life for friends and family will be held from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the See-Zurh House/14 Main in Bemus Point, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd, Jamestown, NY 14701.
