Donald Lewis Wormuth, age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Heritage Green Healthcare Center, Greenhurst, NY of natural causes.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol J. (Mark) Loomis, grandson Daniel R. and granddaughter Katherine G. of Frewsburg, NY, son Philip C. (Teressa) Wormuth of Ellsworth, Maine, brother-in-law John D. (Barbara) Weingart Jr. of Westfield, NY, nephews John H. (Erin) Weingart of Rochester, NY and Jacob (Trish) Weingart of Westfield, NY, and niece Anne (Bory) Weingart-Buth of Baltimore, Maryland.
Don is preceded in death by his wife, Janet C. (Weingart) of 46 years. He was the son of Lewis and Helen (Clarke) Wormuth and stepson of Virginia (Hover) Wormuth.
Don was born in Rome, NY on July 28, 1934. He graduated from Utica Free Academy, attended Utica College, Syracuse University, and the University of Cincinnati. Don went on to become a civil servant for 35 years as an employee of the Social Security Administration.
Don continued to be active in the Jamestown community after retirement, serving as a Compeer volunteer to help people with mental illness live happier, more productive lives. He was a Hospice and Palliative Care volunteer, where he provided comfort and dignity to those facing serious illness. He served as the chapter president of the local AARP chapter where he advocated for social change to enhance the lives of older Americans, and was a fixture on trombone in the Jamestown Municipal Band.
Don was best known for his sense of humor, kindness, and selfless dedication to helping others. He was a loving husband, caring and understanding father and grandfather, dedicated co-worker, and gracious friend. His loss will be sorely missed.
A private celebration of Don’s life will take place for close friends and family members.
