Catherine F. King

Catherine (Cathy) Frances King, 62, of Jamestown, New York, passed away on May 12, 2025, at ECMC Hospital in Buffalo, NY.

Born in the Bronx, NY on Dec. 20th, 1962, Cathy spent her early years there before moving to Mojave, California, where she graduated from high school. She later lived in Warren, Pennsylvania, before settling in Jamestown, New York, where she raised her family.

Cathy devoted much of her life to caring for children, providing loving and dependable childcare to many families in the community. After retiring, she cherished time with her beloved grandchildren: Emma King, Jack Breen, and Vincent King. Cathy’s family was the heart of her life, and the love she showered on her grandchildren knew no bounds. Her devotion to them was unmatched, and to say she “spoiled” them would be an understatement. Cathy, along with her husband and children, cherished every moment together–whether it was family vacations, casual backyard gatherings with friends, or dinners out at local restaurants. The arrival of her grandchildren only deepened her love, making every family reunion and trip even more joyful and special.

Cathy had a passion for travel and spent many joyful moments on yearly family vacations to Vermont, Bar Harbor, Maine, Bethany Beach, Delaware, and her favorite city–New York. She loved Broadway shows, live music, and exploring local restaurants. One of her most favorite traditions was attending the local Comedy Festival each year with her husband, friends, and family. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond people–Cathy was a lifelong animal lover. She cared for feral cats and rescued dogs, dedicating decades to animal welfare.

A lover of all holidays, Cathy made every celebration feel warm, welcoming, and full of love. Though she was Irish by birth, she fully embraced the Italian traditions of her husband’s family. With no formal cooking background, she learned to master treasured family recipes–especially the beloved Italian Christmas cookies. If you received a platter, you knew just how special you were to her. Honoring her Irish roots, St. Patrick’s Day meant the house smelled like cabbage, but her door was always open, with friends and family grabbing a plate to celebrate.

Cathy also discovered a cherished connection later in life through her late father–a sister, Patricia, and through her, nieces and nephews. She was overjoyed to find this missing piece of her family tree and nurtured close, loving relationships with her newly found family. Cathy’s heart was generous, her presence comforting, and her love for her grandchildren immeasurable.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Lawrence (Larry) King Sr.; her son, Lawrence (Larry) King Jr. and his wife Helena; and her daughter, Christina Breen.

A celebration of Cathy’s life will be held at a later date with close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to the Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue in Westfield, NY.
