Russell M. Herbstritt

Russell M. Herbstritt, 60, of Jamestown, NY, formerly of Eldred, PA, peacefully passed away in his home on May 2, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. Born March 24, 1965, in Port Allegany, PA, Russell attended and completed his education at the Pittsburgh School for the Blind, a member of the class of 1981.

Russell was a member of Future Strivers at the MJRC Day Hab. Among the several activities Russell enjoyed doing, shopping, going out to eat, and bowling were by far his favorite. He especially enjoyed attending the Demolition Derby at the fair each year, while ensuring he saw the pigs and had an Italian Sausage. He participated in the Special Olympic bowling for several years, winning several medals.

Russell is survived by sisters, Linda Kramer of Jamestown, NY and Cindy Furman of Eldred, PA; brothers, James Herbstritt of Eldred, PA, and Kenneth Herbstritt of Rutherford, TN; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Russell was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Penworth; his sister, Susan Herbstritt; and his brothers, Joseph Herbstritt and John Herbstritt.

The family of Russell Herbstritt would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to The Resource Center Englewood Group Home staff. Thank you for the love, kindness, and respect given to Russell these past 20 plus years. You made his life so much better, and for that, we are eternally grateful.

The memorial service will be at 11:00am Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Joy Fellowship Free Methodist Church, 515 E 7th Street, Jamestown, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Russell’s name made be donated to The Resource Center, 200 Dunham Avenue, Jamestown, NY 14701.
