Robert Louis “Bob” Verga Sr., 84, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, in Palmyra, Virginia. Born on April 30, 1940, in Niagara Falls, New York, Bob lived a full and vibrant life marked by deep devotion to his family, a passion for people, and an enduring love of classic cars and good deals.
Bob was the beloved husband of Marie “Nan” Verga and the proud father of five sons, John, Robert, Ronald, Richard, and the late James A. Verga. He was the cherished son of John F. Verga and Laura Verga and brother to John R. Verga and Josephine “Verga” King.
Throughout his life, Bob wore many hats with pride and enthusiasm. He began is professional journey as a salesman – a role that suited his outgoing personality and natural ability to connect with others. Later in life, he fulfilled a dream by becoming a restaurant owner, (Break Time). Running his own establishment with his wife allowed him to combine his love for food with his gift for hospitality. Whether being at the bar or chatting with customers at their tables, Bob brought warmth and laughter wherever he went.
A man of many interests, Bob had a particular fondness for old cars. He could often be found admiring vintage models or sharing stories about classic engines with fellow enthusiasts. His weekends were frequently spent bargain shopping – scouring garage sales and flea markets in search of hidden treasures. These outings were not just about bargains, they were opportunities for Bob to meet new people and enjoy time with those he loved.
Bob’s greatest joy came from being surrounded by family. He was known for his fun-loving and unwavering affection for those closest to him. Whether watching TV together or gathering for family visits, Bob made every moment count. His love for Nan was evident to all who knew them-a bond built on over six decades of shared laughter, support, and companionship.
A man of faith, Bob was a member of both Our Lady of Victory in Frewsburg and St. James Catholic Church during different chapters of his life. His spiritual community provided him with strength and fellowship throughout the years.
Bob will be remembered as a gregarious friend to everyone he met-a man who never knew a stranger and who brought joy into every room he entered. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched with kindness, humor, and generosity.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.
A memorial service will be celebrated over the summer at St. James Church, Jamestown.
