Mary A. Fleming

Mary A. Fleming
Mary A. Fleming, 91, of Jamestown, peacefully passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family and is now with our Heavenly Father. For four years, her daughter Karen devoted her life to caring for her in her home until her last days. Mary was born in Louisville, KY on Sept. 8, 1933, to the late Dallas and Anna May Kline Mattingly.
Mary, a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, defined the word, “selfless” by giving all she had and more to make others’ lives better. She was the sole embodiment of, “salt of the earth,” as she would provide a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, and a heart to comfort all.
Caregiving was Mary’s life calling, as she raised and loved her eight children with her husband, Charles, whom she walked beside with comfort, compassion, and unconditional love. Much of her love was given to her many grandchildren, who adored her. Mary enjoyed traveling to see her family and to visit her, “Old Kentucky Home.”
She was also known for cooking simple but delicious meals for all generations to enjoy and for always finding time for her faith. A devout Catholic, Mary prayed her rosary daily, often many times in a day. She spent her days enjoying listening to the EWTN program (Mother Angelica) and the WJTN Radio. Mary’s mornings would start with a warm cup of coffee and a smile that reflected the sunrise.
Mary leaves behind a remarkable legacy, including her children, Rhonda Fleming Teeter of Jamestown, Karen A. Fleming of Jamestown, Patricia (Kenneth) Jackson of San Antonio, TX, Paul (Melissa) Fleming of Kiantone, and Monica Rose Raynor of Frewsburg; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friend and sister-in-law, Nancy Seekins.
Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Fleming, II, who passed away Sept. 16, 2009; her sons, Johnnie B. Fleming and Charles B. Fleming, III; her daughter, Jacqueline Harris; her granddaughter, Kristiann Ashley Jackson; and her brothers, Jacob Leffler and James Mattingly.
