Janice M. Montague

Janice M. Montague, 83, of Mayville, NY, formerly of Phoenix, AZ and Rochester, NY, passed away April 30, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 12, 1942, in Rochester to the late Harold and Marie Stopani McAnn.

Jan dedicated her life to helping and caring for others. She worked as a nurse for many years. Her family remained most important to her. Time spent together as a family, whether at holiday gatherings or on vacations, brought her lasting happiness and memories.

Jan adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, doting over their every accomplishment.

Jan and her husband Walt recently returned to New York State after living many years in Arizona.

Jan was an avid reader who enjoyed novels both by text and in later years by audiobooks. Playing cards was another of Jan’s favorite pastimes; she was both lucky and very competitive, often coming out on top. Her quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her. Jan’s deep generosity left a lasting impact on many individuals and organizations over the years.

Jan will be missed by her husband, Walter T. Montague, whom she married May 20, 1961; her children MaryEllen (Dick) Reynolds, Susan Philps, and Kathryn Zimmerman; her grandchildren, Michael (Elissa) Reynolds, Meghan (Wes) Rice, Corey (Marcy) Philps, Allison and Matthew Zimmerman; great-grandchildren, Olivia Reynolds, Charlotte and Adeline Rice; nephew David, and nieces Dani, Christine, Tricia, and Sherri; and her fur baby Sammy.

Besides her parents Jan was preceded in death by her brother David McAnn and her sister Patricia (Rich) Misgalla.

A memorial service for Jan will be held in Rochester and announced by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jan’s name to WNY Kidney Foundation at https://www.kfwny.org/
