Harold “Hal” Arthur Foster Jr., 97 passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025, in Columbia, SC.
Born in Jamestown, NY, he was the son of Harold Arthur Foster, Sr. and Elizabeth Rogers Foster.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Nancy Foster, his brother, Alan Foster and his son, Michael Foster.
After graduating from Jamestown High School, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan.
Following military service he attended Grove City College in Grove City, PA where he played football and studied mechanical engineering. He then worked as a mechanical engineer for Marlin-Rockwell and later Crescent Tool. The relocation of the Crescent Tool factory prompted his move to Sumter, South Carolina, where he continued to reside until retiring to Myrtle Beach, SC in 1988. During retirement Harold and Nancy spent their days fishing on the pier, traveling and enjoying being a part of their neighborhood community.
Throughout his life Harold was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boat building and any other outdoor pursuit. There was nothing he couldn’t build or repair. He was always learning something new and working on his next project, never losing his sense of wonder and desire to live a productive and adventurous life.
Harold is survived by his son, James (Kathy) Foster of Erie, PA, his stepdaughter, Tamra Gacek of Columbia, SC, three nephews, two nieces, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
