Edith W. Button

Edith Wilson Button, 105, formerly of Panama, NY passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 29, 2024 at The White Oak Manor Skilled Nursing Facility in York, SC.

Born on June 22, 1919 in Bear Lake, Pennsylvania, Edith was the daughter of the late Albert and Esther Wilson. She was also very close to her paternal grandparents with whom she resided for a few of her childhood years. After completing her education, she worked at Raymond Springs in Corry PA and then R.O. Grocery store in Panama after moving there in 1944.

At age 27, Edith married Jasper L. Button of Panama, NY. Together, they raised three children, Gary, Sandra, and Rodney. Marriage and family were the pride of Edith’s life. Over the years, the family especially enjoyed camping and picnicking together. As an avid gardener and cook, Edith also enjoyed making homemade soups, scrumptious dinners and deserts. Also, Edith remained actively involved with the Cub Scouts as a Den Mother, a role that she really enjoyed. Despite having a full life with her family, she and Jasper wouldn’t miss a chance to worship her Lord while attending the numerous tent meetings in the area. In 1973, Edith and Jasper moved to Jamestown, NY, and then in 1994 relocated to York, SC to live close to their son Rodney.

In her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Edith showed kind, loving and sincere devotion, and she will be greatly missed. Edith is lovingly survived by her children, Sandra (Howard) of Lexington Park, MD, and Rodney of York, SC; her grandchildren Matthew Howard (Audra), Jennifer Rollins (Richard), Amy Waild, Julie Langendorfer, and Jason Button; her great-grandchildren, Thomas, Evelyn, Zoe, Briana, Brian, Kaylee and Beau. She is also survived by her brother, Kenneth Wilson. Edith was preceded in death by her husband Jasper, sister Ruth Wilson, and son Gary Button.

A short graveside committal service for close friends and relatives will be held at Panama Greenwood Cemetery on Saturday, June 7, at 11 am.
