Albert E. Proctor

Albert E. “Skid” Proctor, 89, of Lakewood, NY passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at UPMC Chautauqua. He was born in Beaver Dam, PA on March 5, 1936, to the late Homer W. and Clara Hilliker Proctor.

A beloved man to everyone with whom he crossed paths, Skid made his life’s work as a heavy equipment operator with IUOE Local 17 at Union Concrete Construction. He simply loved to work. Throughout his retirement years he continued to operate heavy equipment whenever he had the opportunity. A Jack of All Trades, his generous heart was always willing to help friends and neighbors with any project.

Skid was active in the Jamestown area his whole life. He belonged to the Lakewood Jaycees, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, the Lakewood Yacht Club and the Vikings Ingjald Lodge #65. Moreover, Skid was filled with joy when he was restoring steamer trunks, refinishing over 300 of them throughout his years. There wasn’t a rummage or household sale he would miss in hopes of discovering his next trunk treasure.

Jupiter, FL was Skid’s winter oasis alongside his wife, Mary Jane. Together, they cherished their ocean views and the warmth of the southern sun. Exploring Jupiter Beach Park on his bicycle brightened Skid’s days, and he also accumulated quite the collection of golf balls from the course that neighbored their home.

Skid’s vivacious spirit will be dearly missed by the love of his life, Mary Jane Baggiano Proctor, whom he married May 18, 1957; his children, Phyllis (Tom) Wickerham of Rochester, NY, David (Lisa) Proctor of Carmel, IN, and John (Stacy) Proctor of Mayville, NY; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his daughter-in-law, Carm Proctor; as well as several nieces, and nephews.

Besides his parents, Skid was preceded in death by his son, Bradley A. Proctor in 2018; his granddaughter, Lauren E. Proctor in 2019; his brother, Floyd W. Proctor and his sisters, Audrey Hamilton, Carol Hallgren, Ann Hildom, and Kay Elder.

The family will receive friends from 3-6pm Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Lind Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Thursday, May 22, 2025, at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bemus Point, NY. Rev. Todd Remick will be Celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the “Bradley A. Proctor Memorial Wrestling Scholarship Fund” through the Community Foundation, 418 Spring St., Jamestown, NY 14701 or to the charity of one’s choosing.
