Bruce D. “Grizz” Carlson, 80, of 71 Livingston Avenue, passed away Thursday April 10, 2025, in UPMC Hamot.
He was the husband of Judy Carlson.
Born in Jamestown Aug. 20, 1944, he was the son of the late Adolph and Lillian Olson Carlson.
He was a 1963 graduate of Tonawanda High School and served in the US Coast Guard from 1965-69 in the Great Lakes area of Wisconsin.
For many years he was employed by the City of Jamestown Police Department.
He was an active member of the Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, and the American Legion. Ever the outdoorsman he enjoyed teaching kids how to flyfish and was always concerned about the health of Chautauqua Lake and the watershed. He loved fishing the lake along the docks in a double-end cedar-planked lapstrake row boat that represented past craftsmanship.
Surviving is his wife, Judy North Carlson; stepchildren Randall Herron of Lakewood, Tia Meadows of Clayton, NC, and David Herron of Homosassa, FL; a brother Barry (Joyce) Carlson of Bellflower, CA; a sister Brenda Carlson of Amherst, NY; two nieces, and a nephew Kimberly Schwinge (Ken Griffiths) of Amherst, Debra (Darren) Pogue of Lockport, NY, and Thomas Foley, Jr. of North Tonawanda.
The funeral will be held at 11 am Saturday in First Lutheran Church where friends will be received for one hour prior to the service.
