Nelli Calanni

Nelli Michalski Calanni, of Athens, TX passed peacefully on February 19, 2025 at the age of 89. Nellie was born June 20, 1935, in Jamestown to the late Harriet Jane (Moses) Michalski and William Michalski Sr.

Nellie was employed by Dr. Marvin Siegel in Jamestown, NY for many years and was instrumental in helping build his practic. She changed her career path when she joined the local telephone company was an operator and was promoted quickly to Executive Assistant. She retired after the company was sold.

Nellie married her husband Tony on February 6, 1954. When they both retired, they moved to a golf community in Port Orange, FL where they enjoyed making new friends. While Tony enjoyed golf Nellie enjoyed shopping. Florida was Nellie’s “happy place” where she basked in the sun every chance she got.

After Tony passed away Nellie’s daughter Judi relocated to Florida to reside with her mother and enjoyed Florida life for several years. Changes came and the two moved out of Florida – Judi moved to Portland, OR to be with her daughter and Nellie moved to Kerens, TX to live with her son Dan and his wife Helen. After three and a half years, Nellie moved to Country Place in Athens, TX – an assisted living facility. Nellie enjoyed being a social butterfly and was not a stranger to anyone as she made friends easily. Nellie enjoyed trivia, bingo, and her meals. Friends and family loved teasing her regarding her love of food – she NEVER missed a meal!

Florida was always on Nellie’s mind, and she loved sharing her memories of her time there. She was looking forward to turning 90 this summer – her spirit will be with her friends and family on June 20, 1935, as she is remembered so fondly by all that knew her.

Nellie leaves behind one daughter, Judith R. Simeone of Portland, OR; a son Daniel J. Calanni and wife Helen M. Fitch Calanni of Kerens, TX, a granddaughter Olivia C. Simeone and husband Sam Pecoraro of Portland, OR; and former son-in-law Richard Simeone of Rock Hill, SC. Nellie considered her friends as family and she will certainly be missed by family and friends.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, spouse and four brothers (Jim, Hank, Bill, and David).
