JoAnne Bartoo Brickley

JoAnne Bartoo Brickley, 73, of Jamestown, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on February 23, 2025, at STAR Hospice House. She was born in Wellsville, NY on December 14, 1951, to the late Francis and Beatrice Sherwood Bartoo.

Following graduation from Richburg Central School, JoAnne achieves her BS and MS in education from SUNY Fredonia. She had a remarkable career with Jamestown Public Schools, spending many of her years as an elementary teacher at Rogers Elementary. JoAnne was an active member of the Jamestown Teachers’ Association, maintaining roles as secretary, treasurer, district liaison, and building representative for most of her career.

Along with the National Teachers’ Association, JoAnne remained involved in the Retired National Teachers’ Association and the Chautauqua Retired Teachers’ Association. Delta Kappa Gamma kept JoAnne in high regards as an outstanding woman educator; distinctly, this society was an ode to her dedication to her occupation.

A member of the Order of the Eastern Star, JoAnne’s religion guided her through every season. She loved reading and knitting; however, her devout hobby was scrapbooking, making hundreds of homemade cards for her nieces and nephews. Scrapbooking clubs loved JoAnne’s creativity in Florida and New York alike.

JoAnne and her husband, Larry, enjoyed wintering in Florida while she, too, cherished traveling to various destinations. No matter where she was, her adored dog, Freddie, was in tow.

JoAnne was extremely nice to everyone she encountered and upheld a genuine sense of humor. She will be missed by her husband, Larry, whom she married June 30, 1988; her children, Shawn Brickley and Erin Brickley; grandson, Miles Brickley; sisters, Carol (Roger) Ellsworth of FL, Bonnie (Pete) Hatalla, and Barbara (Alfred) Wilson of OH; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, JoAnne was preceded in death by her daughter, Heather Brickley, and her sister-in-law, Carol Shrurer.

The funeral service for JoAnne will be at 1:00pm on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Lind Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation for two hours prior to the service from 11-1pm Tuesday at Lind’s. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, 20 W Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood, NY 14750. Many thanks for the care given to JoAnne in her final weeks.
