Emily P. Lodestro

Emily P. Lodestro, 90, of Falconer, NY passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, in her home after a brief battle with cancer.

She was born at home on Sept. 11, 1934 in Kinderhook, NY to Reese and Marion Minshell Potter. Her family moved to Lyons Falls, NY when she was nine months old and she resided there until she graduated from Lyons Falls High School in 1953. She attended Union University School of Nursing in Albany, NY. While in Albany, she met Lucian L. Lodestro on a blind date. They were married Sept. 1, 1956 in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Constableville, NY and enjoyed 57 years together until his passing on July 9, 2014.

Emily was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, Falconer and lived a faith filled life. She was an excellent homemaker and caretaker. She enjoyed knitting, painting, crafts, doing word puzzles and jigsaw puzzles (without looking at the box). She was an avid reader and strong supporter of the Falconer Public Library, serving on the library board for many years and helping with the annual book sale every year including 2024. Emily was an excellent cook and baker. Her chocolate chip cookies were legendary and will be missed by many. In the words of Emily, “Whatever.”

She is survived by her son Larry (Cindy) Lodestro of Frewsburg, NY; her daughter Laurie (Timothy) Becker of Falconer, NY; four grandchildren Sean L. (Megan) Lodestro of Clearwater, FL., Colin S. Lodestro of Frewsburg, NY, Carolyn E. Becker of Jamestown, NY, and Elizabeth A. Becker (Michael Buzas) of Erie, PA; two great grandchildren Lucas and Isabel Lodestro of Clearwater, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents Reese and Marion Minshell Potter, her brother, Reese M. Potter and her husband, Lucian L. Lodestro.

At Emily’s request, there will be no visitation hours. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Inurnment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Emily’s family would like to express their thanks to Courtney, her homecare nurse, as well as, staff from Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, Visiting Nursing Association of WNY and Best Care Coordinators for their help, care, guidance and support during the last few months.
