Edwin N. Nelson III “Ed”

A passionate and diehard Cleveland Browns fan, Ed graduated from Southwestern High School and made his career in the grocery industry, proudly managing many produce departments over the years.

In recent years of beloved retirement, Ed doted on his grandchildren to no end. He adored spoiling them and looked forward to weekly family dinners where he would prepare an endless spread for all to savor.

Always carrying a great sense of humor, Ed was, admittedly, not a very handy man. He never hesitated to call others for help when needed.

When it wasn’t a 1:00 Browns game on a Sunday, Ed also cheered for Duke basketball. He belonged to the Lakewood Fire Department, most importantly to play on their softball team.

Ed leaves behind his wife, Julie Town-Nelson; his children, Edwin N. (Demi) Nelson IV, Jennifer (Justin) Litzinger, and Brian (Jayda) Nelson; his cherished grandchildren, Carlin, Blair, Edwin V, Jordan, Michael, Jack, Caz, and Kara; his sister, Laura (Todd) Gilbert; his brother, James Nelson; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Doug A. Nelson, who passed away in 2016.

The family will receive friends for a time of reminiscing from 1-4pm on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at the Lakewood Fire Department Training Grounds & Club House, 116 Pleasantview Ave, Lakewood, NY 14750.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lakewood Fire Department.
