Norma M. Deering, 95, formerly of Falconer, passed away peacefully Wednesday (January 15, 2025) in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing, following the death of her loving husband of 75 years, Donald E. Deering Sr., one week prior.
Norma was born July 30, 1929, in Dunkirk, NY, the daughter of the late Dana and Merle Rusbuldt Hunt. She graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1947. She married the man whom she knew was “the one” on October 1, 1949.
Once her younger children were off to school, Norma went to work for Jamestown Sterlingworth, retiring after 22 years. Norma enjoyed spending time with her family, attending grandchildren’s events, playing bingo, baking, crafting, reading/listening to books and doing word puzzles.
Surviving are a son, Donald E. (Barbara) Deering Jr. of Celeron; and daughters Cheryl (Herbert) Pierce of Fredonia, Laurie (Kevin) Chisholm of Lake Frederick, Virginia, and Kathy Deering (Tammy Hawkins) of Clymer; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Leola Hunt.
A joint, private memorial graveside service will be held for Norma and Donald at a later date. Visitation will not be observed.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers and staff of the Lutheran and Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing facilities, and the Optum nurses for their dedication and care of Norma and Donald over the last five years.
Memorials may be donated to Oishei Children’s Hospital of Buffalo or Chautauqua Blind Association.
