DeForest H. Warn
DeForest H. Warn, 97, a lifelong resident of Frewsburg, died on December 14, 2024.
The son of Howard and Agnes Warn of Ivory, De was a 1945 graduate of Frewsburg Central School and a 1951 graduate of Alfred University. He served in the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego following World War II.
He was employed by Marlin-Rockwell from 1951 to 1987, retiring as Manufacturing Analyst and was a member of the American Production and Inventory Control Society.
De dedicated himself to a life of service: he was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Frewsburg, serving as council president and later as treasurer for 19 years. He was a long-time member of the Frewsburg Lion’s Club, serving in a variety of capacities, including president and later as secretary for 15 years. He received the Uplinger Award and Melvin Jones Award for his services with the Lions Club. He was a member of the Samuel Derby Post of the American Legion. De served on the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Chautauqua Association. He was an officer with the former Lutheran Brotherhood Association and with the MRC Federal Credit Union. He was the treasurer for the Town of Carroll Historic Society, was a member of the Jamestown Audubon Society, and was a volunteer for the 1-86 Rest area in Bemus Point. Finally, he was Scoutmaster from Troop 33 in Frewsburg, serving as one of five drivers to take the first group of scouts from Chautauqua County to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 1951.
An avid amateur photographer, he documented the many events and changes in the Chautauqua County area: photographing the Kinzua Dam project in the 1950s, taking aerial photographs of the area, and capturing the area’s development. He also enjoyed golf, bowling and travel.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Joyce, and three children: Douglas Warn of Pawling, NY, Rev. Kathryn Warn of Manheim, PA, and Debra Warn (Sue Panny) of Teaneck NJ and is also survived by his sisters, Elaine Hodges and Betty Kolstee, both of Frewsburg.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, December 19, 2024 in Zion Lutheran Church, Frewsburg. Pastor Phillip Roushey will officiate.
Friends will be received from 1-2 pm (one hour prior to the service) on Thursday in the church.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Lake View Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg.
