Mark A. Young

Mark A. Young

Mark A. Young, 72, of Frewsburg, passed away Sunday October 27, 2024, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, surrounded by his children.

He was born December 12, 1951, in Jamestown, NY, the son of the late Alton and Lois Peterson Young.

Mark was a 1970 graduate of Jamestown High School.

Before his retirement, Mark worked in the restaurant and food service industry for many years at various establishments, including the Grog Shop, Corry Country Club, Tri-County Country Club, Lutheran Social Services, Applebee’s and the Italian Fisherman.

In his younger years, Mark played football and baseball. He loved to attend concerts and traveled the country before settling down back home in Jamestown. He often recounted stories of his times living in the western United States.

His children cherish the memories of the countless hours Mark spent teaching them to play baseball and softball. His bellowing voice was a common sound while he cheered them on during their sports events and activities.

Mark was truly at home in the kitchen, always happy to cook and entertain. In close circles, he was known for his Swedish meatballs, and no one could turn down a second (or maybe a third) helping.

Mark enjoyed golfing whenever possible and looked forward to the warmer months when he could tee off with his two sons. He was particularly proud of teaming up with them to win a charity golf tournament a few years ago. He was a man of many hats and collected one from almost every golf course or place he visited throughout the years.

Mark was a gifted conversationalist, able to strike up a chat with anyone and everyone about anything. He maintained friendships for years and seemed to know someone everywhere he went. He had a keen memory and a knack for telling stories from many years ago.

He became the willing family taxi driver, often picking up each of his kids and their friends whenever they needed a late-night ride, which was usually filled with plenty of laughs.

Mark had great affection for his grandchildren, traveling to Buffalo, Rochester, and Texas to visit them.

Mark was a member of First Lutheran Church, Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association, Allen Park Men’s Club, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club Inc, and Vikings Lodge IOV 65.

Surviving are three children: Andrew (Kristy) Young of West Seneca, NY, Amanda (Brian) Hecht of Coppell, TX and Aaron (Ashley) Young of Penfield, NY; six grandchildren: Ella and Julian Young, Claire and Audrey Hecht, Owen and Otis Young; two sisters: Mary (Robert) Whitehead and Jane (Donald Landquist) Young.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Julie Root Young whom he married August 14, 1982, and who died December 31, 2017.

The family will receive friends from 11am to 1 pm Thursday October 31, 2024, in the Lind Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Allen Park Men’s Club in Jamestown on Friday November 1, 2024, from 5 to 7pm.

Memorials may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Association of Western New York.
