Joe Bixby Newcombe

He was born March 19, 1953, in Jamestown, NY to the late George and Rae (Bixby) Newcombe. Joe graduated from Mayville Central School in 1971. Following graduation, he was employed at a local gas station. He was then employed at Ethan Allen until their closure.

From a young age, Joe enjoyed fishing and classic cars. He collected matchbox cars and assembled model cars. He was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed bowling and participated in local leagues. He loved old movies and historical war books. In his later years, he enjoyed puzzle books, watching trains and visiting with his friends at the Mayville Lakeside Park.

He is survived by a sister, Mindi Guest, two nieces, Erin Guest and Katie (Dan Gleason) Guest, and a great nephew, Benjamin Gleason – all of Westfield.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his grandparents, Clarence and Jane (Dearing) Bixby and Alfred and Ella (Neckers) Newcombe, his aunt, Betty (Newcombe) Selzer,and his brother-in-law, Jeffrey Guest.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 24 from 5-7 PM at the Freay FuneralHome in Mayville. A service will immediately follow. Rev. Cathy Smith will officiate. Private burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Mayville Fire Department or the Chautauqua Rescue Squad.
